Mat Osmond and Kate Walters are the creative team behind the Black Madonna’s Song, a collection of poems and paintings dedicated to the late Meinrad Craighead, an artist, writer and Benedictine nun whose life was steered from early childhood by an intimate connection with God the Mother. At the heart of this book is a series of poems written by Mat, which reply to Meinrad Craighead’s paintings; and which are accompanied, in turn, by a series of Kate’s water color paintings, which were chosen for their resonance with the poems. Having shared a connection to the Black Madonna for many years, Mat and Kate’s voices come together here in concert with Meinrad’s, creating a uniquely blended conversation between the three, using both words and images. On today’s episode, Mat, Kate and I cover a wide range of topics, including how each envisions and experiences the Sacred Feminine, the role of prayer in bringing meaning into our lives, the Divine Feminine and Her relationship with the natural world, and how She can inform both our understanding of pending ecological collapse, and our actions in the face of it.
